Success is Subjective: Real People. Raw Stories. Embracing a Non-Linear Life!
Interviews of people who took a break from life at one point or another to get help, grow up, or just to reassess their life direction. Some guests struggled with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, a death in the family, or just decided college was not the place for them. These stories are all-to-real, and yet we don't talk enough about how common it is for those who took a gap year to defer college, went to college and took a break, or those who struggled launching into the workforce post-college graduation. This goes out to all the young adults and parents of young adults who are struggling and contemplating what will happen if they walk away right now.

Special Parent Series: Episode 230 with “Ashley”
For the entire month of May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Joanna is bringing you a special parent series, where she interviews parents whose children have overcome a variety of mental health challenges. Today’s episode is a conversation between Joanna and Ashley. When he first went off to college, Ashley’s son seemed relatively stable. But not long into his college experience, her son fell ill, followed by Covid forcing him back home, where it became apparent that he struggled with alcohol use. Trying multiple outpatient programs, nothing seemed to help. Ashley knew that her son’s life was on the line and getting him help took precedence over his education. She shares with listeners what their family’s journey has looked like and gives parents her best advice regarding kids who struggle with addiction. Ashley also provides a tremendous resource for college students in need of support.
